In the world we live in now how many hand written thank you notes do you receive? I get very few but I actually keep them when I get one. It makes me so happy to get a kind hand written gesture from a customer, colleague, or a friend. It is truly sad that this is something we don't do anymore.
I have made it a practice to write thank you notes everyday when I get to the office. If I am making a cold call and I speak with the decision maker...I write a thank you note to thank them for their time on the phone. Not an email but a hand written note. If I have a customer that gives me business...I write them a thank you note. If I get a warm lead from a friend, customer or colleague...write them a thank you note. It is such a personal touch that it will build relationship and trust.
The thank you note can be short but make it personal. I always make sure I put something that is about what I know about them. If is someone I don't really know yet...it might be I hope you have a wonderful week or have an amazing weekend. Put something that will make them feel that they have something in common with you. If it is someone I have met bring up something that you talked about for example, I hope you had a great trip to the beach or I know you will miss your daughter when she leaves for college but she will do amazing...keep that chin up! Just remember to make it personal along with your thank you.
I never write my note on a company thank you note. I always use a card that would represent who I am. I find a card with my monogram or something that look like me. Obviously put your business card in the envelope...this keeps you top of mind.
You can also put an article about the company or something that would be helpful to them in their business. I have found articles about their kids sports achievement or that they became an Eagle Scout, or a marriage announcement...cut it out and put in in your thank you note. Let your customer know that you are really interested in them. These small gestures will help you build your business!!
Never forget how important your relationship is with your customer. Make it a priority to write your thank you notes. Your business will grow!
Keep dreaming big!!
